The SolCook MISSION
Simply put, to make available a high quality, low cost, top performing solar cooker
The SolCook VISION
We envision our design being constructed locally. We envision our design empowering refugees and created opportunity.
We envision our design earning acceptance due to its durability, reliability and efficiency.

Our Work
Solar cooking in the developing world is a matter of life or death.

Every day, people die due to waterborne illnesses. Solar cooking makes unsafe water drinkable through pasteurization.

SolCook owner Jim La Joie was disappointed in the marginal performance of the cardboard cookers that were being distributed in the third world. The cookers were flimsy and provided only one meal mid afternoon.

SolCook's current design overcomes the shortfalls of other panel cookers, allowing 3 meals to be cooked a day, unlike most cookers on the market.

Because the design performs so reliably and is so durable, it is achieving acceptance by users all over the world.

Currently used in 137 countries.
SolCook supports entrepreneurship in the refugee camps. Building plans are provided free of charge as are fully functional cookers.
Camp residents are encouraged to work with local NGOs to source local materials and duplicate Jim's design. Refugee women have taken advantage of this support, building their own businesses and working their way out of poverty and the camps.

This image shows a cooker built using
repurposed materials. Fully functional and as durable as the material it is made from, this solar cooker will provide many years of service, and, keep unwanted plastics out of our landfills and oceans.
