Jim La Joie’s experience with solar energy dates back to his childhood in Arizona. "The black asphalt was very hot under bare feet! But if you stood on the white line, or the yellow line, that was tolerable," explains the inventor as he recounts his learning experience.Mr. Jim's first solar cooker was a box-type cooker, that he built himself from instructions he found in a gardening magazine. He soon went on to build many other cookers, including parabolic and panel types. Although humbly omitted in his interview, Mr. Jim has also won numerous awards for his solar cooker designs, was invited to teach in STEM programs, and was a cosponsor of the high desert solar cooker building competition 3 years in a row.Watch as he shares how and why his world-famous All Season Solar Cooker was birthed.

Solar cooker design is a critical factor in the success of your cooking. Mr. Jim uses the acronym C.A.R.D. to evaluate all solar cooker designs on the:<ul><li>Collection of light</li><li>Absorption of light as heat</li><li>Retention of heat</li><li>Duration of cooking time</li></ul>If you have twelve hours of sunshine on a given day, your All Season Solar Cooker can operate for all twelve hours! Most solar cookers will only cook at full capacity between 10 AM and 2 PM. If you only have four hours of sunshine in the morning, and then you get cloud coverage, your All Season Solar Cooker can operate and cook a meal in those four hours, while most other cookers would not operate at all. I brought this solar cooker to Africa in 2009. It was easy to use and demonstrate
to the women of eastern Congo (DRC) where I was volunteering at the time. I
only wish I had more of these to distribute...They are easy to use and
understand, efficient in their use of the sun and highly effective. I was able to
cook many local favorites in my cooker like grains (rice), spinach (tshitekutaku),
and "fufu" a local high energy bread. Don't be deceived by the price, they work,
they are cost effective and they are easy to use and understand. If you can
understand a sun dial, you can use this cooker, easily.

I wanted to express how very happy I am with the cooker. We are off-grid in Tennessee and we absolutely love it! I feed my family of seven with ease and without electricity, thanks to you and your wonderful design.

Last summer I "lived" outside, cooking every day the sun was shining & I was
home. I cooked multiple things most days. It fascinates me how it could be
possible that such a thing [All Season Solar Cooker] could cook my food. I hardly
ever even used the stove or oven in the house. Awesome.

This really works! I was surprised at the size - a little bigger than I imagined, but very lightweight. I followed the directions carefully and easily put it together. While everyone else was grilling out on the 4th of July, I was testing out my Solar Cooker! Got a nice dark enamel pot, put it in the bag, and had perfect Quinoa in about 1.5 hours. Now I know that I can boil water, make rice, beans, soup, or anything else if the power goes out. Gives me peace of mind. Would be fun to take out camping, too! I am very impressed by the thoughtful engineering that went into this design. Thank you to the very clever man who designed it!

This is the first time I used a solar oven of any sort. Setting it up was very easy with the directions that came with it. I made 2 thawed salmon fillet's. They were refrigerator cold when first put in oven, but were too hot to touch when I took them out. The consistency of the fillet's were perfect and very moist. The flavor was amazing. It was a mostly sunny day and i had them in there 1 hour because it took me an hour to mow. It was very nice just putting the food in there and doing chores and coming back to your food perfectly done . I will be doing many more recipes as often as I can.

Awesome product! Compared to other cookers I have tried, it is especially efficient later in the day when the sun is not at peak intensity.

Assemble the ASSC Advantage Model

Start building the ASSC by laying it out on a flat surface. Using a straight edge, fold the panels very quickly, on the front and the back of the cooker. Make sure that it comes complete, you will need: 2 elevation bars 1 Instruction manual 6 bolts 6 steel washers 6 wing nuts 2 hex nuts 4 rubber washers

Part 1 - Folding the panels

Take one of the steel bolts, and pass it through the inside of a middle panel. Pass the trapezoidal shaped panel over the same bolt, followed by the small panel on the outside. Fasten the bolt with a steel washer, and a wing nut. Do the same on the other side of the cooker.

Part 2 - Assembling the Base

While on the summer base, the top panel comes on the inside (of the middle panel), and the front panel on the outside (of the middle panel), but the elevation bars come outside all panels.Pass a steel bolt through the hole in the top panel. Then fit two rubber washers over that. Next comes the elevation bar. Finally, fasten the bolt with a steel washer, and a wing nut. Pass a steel bolt through the hole in the bottom panel. Then fit one hex nut over that. Next comes the elevation bar. Finally, fasten the bolt with a steel washer, and a wing nut.

Part 3 - Assembling the Panels

Make sure you've built your cooker with the right shape. The front to the top panel should measure the same as from the left to the right panels. Otherwise, flex the panels to ensure the correct shape. Finally, place the Sunsight onto the front or top panel of the cooker, but make sure the dowel faces towards the face of the cooker (and not away from it).
